The Justice and Development Party condemns the visit of the Israeli delegation to Rabat – Middle East Monitor

Members of the Justice and Development Party in Rabat condemned the reception by a local leader of an Israeli delegation during a folk festival organized by the district council with the support of the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communications.

Moulay Hafid Mustain, a member of the Yacoub Al-Mansour district council in the capital and affiliated with the party, called the visit a “desecration” of the district’s “pure land”. The invitation to the Israelis to attend the Taburideh (horse) festival and their reception was, he insisted, the fault of one person and did not represent the entire council.

“Traditional horsemanship is an authentic Moroccan heritage,” Mustain explained. “It reflects Moroccans’ association with horses and symbolizes jihad and the defense of sanctities, which Moroccans protect with pride.”

He stressed his rejection of any form of normalization with the brutal Zionist entity and anyone who represents it in any capacity, due to its violations against the Palestinian people, as well as repeated attacks on holy sites, especially the Al-Aqsa Mosque. The municipal councilor called on all elected officials, civil society associations and honest people in the neighborhood to condemn and denounce this reception.

At the same time, the Moroccan-Israeli normalization was underlined by alyaoum24 website which revealed that the Ministry of Higher Education in Rabat has activated the academic cooperation agreements signed with Israel. The first group of Moroccan students studied for a semester at Ben Gurion University of the Negev. This is the first cooperation of its kind between Israeli and Moroccan universities, within the framework of the data science and health system program, which includes students from all over the world.

The Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, Abdellatif Miraoui, wants to link Moroccan universities to their Israeli counterparts through new agreements. He met a few days ago in Rabat the Israeli Minister for Regional Cooperation, Esawi Frej, to conclude an agreement to award scholarships to Moroccan students.

The Moroccan Minister of Education signed an agreement in May with the Israeli Ministry of Science, Technology and Space. The agreement aims to expand cooperation between universities and research centers and to strengthen communication between students and researchers.

The agreements signed by Miraoui have already been criticized by university professors. The Moroccan Union for Higher Education and Scientific Research has condemned the activities involving Israelis in Moroccan universities.

During his last days in office, the former Minister of National Education, Vocational Training, Higher Education and Scientific Research, Saïd Amzazi, launched student exchange programs and high school twinnings” with establishments in Israel. These were followed by visits by Israeli scholars to Moroccan universities, including a professor from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. The Israeli Liaison Office announced a few weeks ago that it had traveled to Morocco to work on consolidating relations between the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Moroccan academia.
