Kathleen Verner, Vice President of the WI Federation and Heather Adamson, Chair of the WI Balmoral Show Sub-Committee, celebrate WI’s 90th anniversary and return to the Balmoral Show 2022.

As always, WI will feature its ever-popular arts, crafts and gardening exhibits, as well as pastries and treats in the tea room itself. Margaret Broome, Chair of WI, commented: “The Women’s Institute of Northern Ireland celebrates its 90th anniversary this year but has, like the rest of the world, suffered greatly from the effects of Covid-19 over the past two years. “We have seen a dramatic drop in membership, loss of premises and closure of some local branches. “The WI was created to help rural women and that is still its main objective today, so I would like to encourage women of all ages to join their local branches.

“Gone is the old ‘Jam and Jerusalem’ image as we usher WI into the 21st century!” She continued, “We offer something for everyone.

“If you like cooking, gardening, flower arranging, baking, crafts – there is something for you and if, like me, you don’t, there is still something for you.

“I’ve been a member for 44 years and have no talent in any of these activities, but I’ve loved every minute of my time as a WI member.

“Contact WI Head Office to find your nearest branch or speak to anyone in WI and you will receive a very warm welcome. “I would like to thank RUAS for their help and support over the years.

“Balmoral has always been our flagship event – who doesn’t love a WI tea? – and we were very well received.

“It has also provided us with the income needed to continue our work and we are very grateful for that.” All tickets for The Balmoral Show, in partnership with Ulster Bank, must be purchased online at www.balmoralshow.co.uk/buy-ticketsFor the latest updates on the show, visit www.balmoralshow.co.uk or follow Balmoral Show on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.
