Tomy teams up with Studio Ghibli to bring anime-themed toy cars

Leading toymaker Tomy Co. has announced that it will launch a new line of Tomica toy cars in conjunction with Studio Ghibli Inc. that will feature die-cast models of vehicles featured in the legendary anime studio’s popular works.

Scheduled to be released on November 19, the first batch of the “Dream Tomica Ghibli ga Ippai” line (Dream Tomica with lots of Ghibli) will include three Tomica versions of anime-related vehicles

These are the Cat Buses from “My Neighbor Totoro”; the Savoia S.21F seaplane piloted by the titular “Porco Rosso” character; and a Sea Railway train car traveling on the sea of ​​”Spirited Away”.

Characterized by uncompromising attention to detail, the Cat Bus appears to race through a forest in search of young protagonist Mei. Its destination marker also reads “Mei”.

The flying boat’s engine propeller can be turned, while Chihiro, the protagonist of “Spirited Away”, is seen inside the wagon with the No-Face monster.

Each is priced at 1,320 yen ($9.30), including tax.
